JOB SUMMARY
Murdoch's is looking to recruit a reliable and organised individual to take on the production cook position within our bakery kitchen. Working within the bakery team your main role will be cooking fresh fillings for pies, making pastry and ready-meals. Our bakery kitchen manufactures and supply award-winning meat pies to sell in our high street butcher shop, to convenience stores and supermarkets across Scotland, as well as online for UK distribution. Murdoch Butchers is certified by SALSA, operating to the highest food standards set out for small businesses.

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE
Previous experience of large batch cooking in the food/catering industry
Current food hygiene certification would be advantageous
THE ROLE
As well as cooking duties the role will include other elements of the pie and ready-meal production process like ordering, stock management and packaging for dispatch. The position will involve manual/heavy lifting and cooking in large batch sizes. You will report to Aiden Murdoch (Bakery/Kitchen Manager).
You will be working alongside the bakery team to ensure all daily production tasks are carried out which include:

following strict family recipes to prepare and cook all produce

cook fillings for pies using gas hob and 300 litre oil-jacket boiler

roast meat using a rationale oven
-
prepare ready meals including lasagnes and quiches
-
complete all necessary traceability and food safety record keeping documentation

make pastry from scratch (previous experience not essential, training provided)

managing and ordering stock
-
packaging of produce for dispatch
SALARY, WORK TRIAL & INDUCTION INFORMATION
As a production cook you will be on an hourly rate (at or above minimum wage) confirmed following a successful fully paid four week work trial. During the work trial you will be paid at basic rate (depending on experience) and given a full induction training.
Your rate will be formally reviewed/agreed after successful completion of a work trial. Work trial will be Monday to Friday from 6am daily.
